Starbucks Customers Say “Shut Up and Serve Coffee”

SEATTLE, Wa. –

The backlash from Starbucks failed marketing effort called “Race Together” continues to grow. Even though the company has stopped the marketing campaign by telling media outlets that “phase 1” is completed, the backlash carries on as social media has been hashtagging #Starbucks and #ShutUpandServeCoffee.

Fearing that Starbucks may implement a “phase 2” in an attempt to save face, customers have taken the proactive step by writing on their cups “shut up and serve coffee,” then leaving the cups behind rather than throwing them out.

“I mean, you’re a coffee shop.. you serve coffee you don’t force a discussion on race on people and on your employees for the purpose of brand management. Grow up and quit with this shit. Shut up and serve coffee!” said one Starbucks patron in Boston, echoing the sentiment of many.

Starbucks had looked to capitalize on the current state of race relations which has led to a number of deaths by police, and the belief by many that racism was to blame.
