Selfie Posing “Village Idiots” Refuse To Aplogize
In a shocking selfie photo gone viral, a group of young people, now known as the “Village Idiots” took a smiling group selfie in the East Village while behind them a roaring fire was causing major destruction and loss of life.
After they posted their group selfie on social media, comments began pouring in:
“What a bunch of self absorbed, disgusting clique of low life bitches…”
“One pic shows everything wrong with America..a posing group of human-maggots for sure!”
Apparently three of the “Village Idiots” have come forward, releasing a statement in defense of their group selfie:
“Excuse us, but we were celebrating life! Behind us was death and we were cheering about how lucky we were to be alive. We were only hundreds of yards away from that fire. We could have been in that fire, yet we were not. Uh, excuse us again, but I do think that is grounds for a celebratory group selfie. I’m proud to say that we went on to have a few rounds of cocktails after that shot was taken to further celebrate our lucky and awesome lives!”
While the “excuse us” comments may be seen as an apology of sorts, many believe it to be the exact opposite. “That was no apology, they were basically mocking everyone who found their egotistical act in the backdrop of horror to be extremely distasteful,” said one comment.
No word yet whether the Village Idiots will be making any television broadcast appearances in further defense of their act.
