Suicidal Tendencies to Reunite with “All I Wanted Was A Slushie”
Thrash legends Suicidal Tendencies first made waves in the early 80’s with their song “Institutionalized” which featured the famous line, “All I Wanted Was A Pepsi.” The song was written about a teenager going through the angst-ridden trials and tribulations of American youth.
Recently, a 4-year-old in Philadelphia experienced these same feelings of angst. Fed up with suburban life, she fled her parents home at 3 a.m., hopped on a bus trying to get to a 24-hour 7-11 where she planned on shoplifting a slushie. On board the bus, and frustrated, video surveillance revealed the young girl flopping her legs around and reciting over and over, “All I wanted was a slushie. Just one slushie. And they wouldn’t give it to me. Just a slushie.”
This was enough inspiration for the Tendencies to re-form, plan a new album and set tour dates for the latter part of 2015.
“Yeah Mike and the guys were super stoked when they heard about this girl and her early aged angst slushie quest. Something ignited a spark and almost instantly it was decided that they would record, INSTITUTIONALIZED 2,” says longtime roadie Bill Bathwowzer.
With renewed invigoration and clear recognition that there is a youthful fan base out there longing to hear thrash metal, Suicidal will be hitting the studios next week. They half jokingly state that for their first gig they would love to perform Institutionalized 2 at the 4-year old slushie girl’s pre-school.
